Early morning water shuttle out of South Point now even earlier

Responding to travelers' requests and suggestions, WSDOT changed the departure time for the first boat out of South Point from 4:25 a.m. to 4:20 a.m.

The new 4:20 a.m. service out of South Point, which started Tuesday, May 12, provides commuters more time to catch the Bainbridge Island-Seattle ferry. Traffic had resulted in some connnection problems for buses traveling to meet early morning departures from the ferry terminals in Kingston and Bainbridge Island.

New schedules indicating the change are available on the water shuttles and at www.HoodCanalBridge.com.

Changing the time of the first water shuttle in the morning leaves a subsequent gap of 1 hr 10 minutes between the first and second shuttles. Can another shuttle time be added at the 1/2 hour mark to fill this gap?

I would like to say a loud and resounding THANK YOU!!! Its very easy to post negative comments, but so much nicer to see some positive also.
I live in Quilcene and trek to Bainbridge with kids in tow daily. I appreciate that you respond to requests and make adjustments as needed.
It is OF COURSE inconvenient to have the shuttle cancelled because of weather, but the alternative - someone falling between the boat and dock, injury to our kids or ourselves - would result in an immediate lawsuit and comments wondering why WSDOT would allow the crossings! So I for one would offer a KUDOS to the lot attendants, ferry workers, bus drivers, and all those that make our commute as easy and smooth as possible given the difficult circumstances.

I thought bikes were not allowed on the water taxi?

Our schedules are based on ridership numbers and demand, both indicate that we can't add the shuttle time.

Bicycles have always been allowed on the water shuttles. Their numbers have been limited, though. Five can be accommodated per sailing.

Somewhat related... I overheard yesterday that the number of buses from Port Gamble to Lofall between 4pm and 6pm has been cut. Please confirm. We arrived at Port Ludlow at 4:05, thinking we would make the 4:40 sailing, and the bus we got on didn't leave until well after 4:30.

Why can't you make a 5 am run? My husband rides the 5:30 one and says its packed! If he caught the earlier one he would be an hour early for work. Catching the one he catches makes him 1/2 hour late. Please check your numbers again. Thank you!

That is incorrect. Service has not been cut. The bus in question must have been experiencing unexpected delays.
